It must have been about midnight, the middle of the week in fact. The streets we're completely empty, nobody around at all. Most would be a little frightened at the dead silence and attempt to get home as soon as possible. Though, Anya felt she had little to fear, things were quiet so that must be good, right? Even if there was someone there, someone who possibly wanted to mug her, it didn't bother her since she had her fingers gripped around a shovel and some strength behind that grip.
Anya gazed out at the street, there were hardly any cars even, occasionally one would speed down the road partially lighting up the sidewalk for only a few seconds before the vehicle disappeared into the night. The Russian wondered why people chose cars so much over walking. She could understand why they would in the night, but there were far more cars during the day. Shouldn't they enjoy the sun and warmth while they could before the warmer months escaped and became a white landscape of frost.
It hadn't been long before Anya was deep in thought, memories had lined the thoughts with both angered and happy memories. After a long few moments her mind snapped back from the depths of her mind. 'What was that noise?'
She knew this wasn't her mind playing tricks with her. Her eyes narrowed, at the spot she thought she heard the mysterious noise from, after a moment of nothing she turned around and continued walking. Anya hadn't walked faster or slower, simply at her normal place to continue home. [/blockquote]

In Nikolai’s eyes, Anya was an angel gifted to earth by the grand ruler himself. She had to have been; no creature, human or otherwise, was as captivating and beautiful as she, nor as graceful and intelligent… Or any number of adjectives that the Belarusian male could potentially think of to describe his big sister.
It amused him to think that she was his big sister, for he was much taller in stature than she, but she and his brother were older, so no matter his height, he was forever the youngest. He liked that she was small, though. It made things like hugging her or holding her close enjoyable. That was, when he could manage it.
When he heard that his dear little sister would be out after dark, he couldn’t help but want to go and protect her. She was strong, yes, but also very beautiful, and there could possibly be men out that would take her by surprise and overpower her! Plus, he saw it as a good excuse to practice his knife-throwing, should she encounter a pursuer.
He wondered why she was out in the first place, but followed after her in silence without question, moving with the wind and blending into the night. He was good at sneaking behind his sister, and had perfected the art of staying in her blind spots and avoiding her gaze when she caught sound of him. Everything had been going smoothly until he took a misstep and his boots crunched a particularly loud wrapper. Damn humans, always so messy. He quickly melted into the shadows, waiting until the coast was clear to slide back out. This time, he decided to just be more direct. She was less likely to be targeted if she had a man with her, right?
Arms slid around the Russian’s waist from behind and a cool cheek rested atop her head, delaying her movements for a moment. “Privet, sestra. It is not safe at night. You should tell me before you walk places. I will gladly accompany.”

She didn't think that anyone would follow her, well nobody that would scare her that is. Anya thought this was going to be a easy walk home, alone, not that she preferred it. She wouldn't mind a friend accompanying her but right now that wasn't exactly something she could ask for. So, being alone would just have to do for now. It isn't as if she would be alone forever, well she hope she wouldn't be completely alone.
It seemed as if it was so easy for people to take friends, family, and love for-granted. They would wake up everyday to these blessings of being surrounded by people and others who cared about one another. How could someone ever realize how much they have? Certainly you would think that they would know how lucky they are before they are taken away. Unfortunately the sad truth was that most really didn't see what they had until it was gone, and when somethings gone, it never seems to come back. 'That will have to change,'
the Russian thought. She was going to stop thinking about the subject, it was a little too depressing. Anya had trouble not thinking of it, especially once she allowed the emotions to consume her. Here she was, standing alone at night on her way to a place where she would be alone. In a way she was glad someone decided to bother her, it was much easier to get her mind off of those pestering lonesome thoughts. Her hands tightened around the shovel a grin worked across her cheeks. But then she heard who the voice belonged too and immediately knew who it was. Her grip tightened so much after he spoke that she couldn't feel her fingers, it wasn't because she was going to hit him but she was a fearful. "N-Nikolai?" She kept her eyes shut tight. "I didn't think I would need to call anyone. Nobody will bother me..." [/blockquote]

“It is still unwise for a beautiful girl to wander alone.” Nikolai murmured, brushing a strand of his sister’s hair aside so he could kiss a rosy cheek. ”You seem tense. Are you sure you were not worried?” He asked, though this happened most every time he was around Anya. She was always so courageous and outgoing with others, but meek with him. Perhaps it was her love for him growing?
“In any case,” Nikolai pulled from the woman, but just enough so that he could stand at her side, towering over her, “I will be walking home with you. And it is late, so I will stay over and watch over you. In the morning, I can make you food and brush your hair for you.” With his sister, he would enjoy domestic activities like this, but he was always, without fail, more or less shot down. She was so shy sometimes, and he found it cute.

At first she was a loss of words. Her appearance didn't exactly matter, she knew she could take someone down if she needed too. Sure, there would be struggle, especially if the person she was attacking was another strong counterpart or country, though she doubted any counterpart or country would immediately attack her. Though, a human...they seemed much more foolish and were more likely to try something stupid and attack Anya. Little did those humans know that they wouldn't be able to get away with causing harm to the Russian, she would easily beat them into a pool of blood.
"Worried? I'm not worried."
she made an attempt at assuring him that she was fine. The last thing Anya wanted was Nikolai being concerned. There was nothing he could protect her from so there truly was nothing for him to worry about. "I'm fine." He was coming home with her? Anya bit her bottom lip as hard as she could trying not to let out a gasp or surprised noise, though her emotions were written very clearly across her face. She felt him let go of her though never truly left her, since he was standing right over her. Not only did he want to walk her home but he wanted to stay and "watch over her". Those words, she could hardly think about what that meant and how scared it made her. This was her brother though, how could someone have such emotions toward their siblings? Anya never really thought about it, nevertheless she wondered how other siblings interacted and if it was the same as her relationship with her own brothers, or perhaps they were unique? "I can walk myself home...Thats alright," she told him glancing up at him from the corner of her eye. "Besides, wouldn't you rather return to your own home?" She hoped that he would say yes. Even if he wanted to walk her home, she would take that over him walking her home and having him stay over. She waited for a moment and then took a few steps away from him and in the direction of her house. "It's safe now, see? Nothing bad happened." [/blockquote]
